Health Commission reviews adoption of Johanna Law on perinatal death
The Health Commission, chaired by Deputy Omar Gutiérrez, met to analyze the provincial adoption of National Law 27.733, known as the ‘Johanna Law’. This legislation establishes medical assistance procedures for the care of women and pregnant individuals facing perinatal death.
During the session, medical professionals from the Ministry of Health and the Materno Infantil Hospital provided expertise regarding daily clinical experiences. Key discussions focused on guaranteeing rights, providing adequate environments for grieving, and ensuring respectful treatment by healthcare teams. Specific measures discussed included the possibility for pregnant individuals to have contact with the deceased infant.
Dr. Claudia Castro noted that Jujuy has already been addressing these issues through the ‘Código Mariposa’ initiative. The commission agreed to continue analyzing the project and will hold further meetings with involved medical teams.
