Health expert issues warnings on post-vacation illnesses

Following the summer holiday season, there has been an increase in medical consultations for upper respiratory and intestinal infections. Specialist Dr. İrem Özçelik from Memorial Antalya Hospital notes that these health issues often stem from changes in lifestyle and routine rather than the vacation itself.

To support the immune system during this seasonal transition, Dr. Özçelik provides several key recommendations. These include maintaining strict hand hygiene by washing hands for at least 20 seconds, restoring regular sleep patterns (7-8 hours for adults and 9-12 hours for children), and ensuring a daily water intake of 2 to 2.5 liters.

Dietary adjustments are also emphasized, specifically the consumption of foods rich in Vitamin C, probiotics, and zinc. Recommended foods include citrus fruits, broccoli, yogurt, and nuts. Additionally, the expert advises avoiding processed foods and excessive sugar, while suggesting fish consumption at least twice a week to bolster immunity.
