Health experts address seasonal rise in respiratory illnesses

Medical professionals report an increase in respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses, a phenomenon sometimes referred to on social media as ‘mysterious September sickness’. Common symptoms include sore throats, coughing, runny noses, fatigue, and digestive issues.

Experts clarify that this surge is a routine seasonal occurrence rather than a new or extraordinary outbreak. The increase in infections is attributed to the end of summer holidays and the return to closed environments such as schools, kindergartens, and workplaces, which facilitates the spread of pathogens.

Physicians note that the current infection rates are consistent with historical trends and do not show extreme deviations compared to previous years. The primary causes are identified as traditional rhinoviruses, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and common colds. Medical professionals describe this period as a time when the immune system encounters and learns to defend against various pathogens after the summer break.
