Health experts advise moderate coffee intake and adequate hydration in summer

Caffeine has a mild diuretic effect, but studies cited by the Mayo Clinic show that the fluid in caffeinated drinks generally offsets this effect for healthy adults. Leading health organizations such as Mayo Clinic, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Verywell Health consider up to 400 mg of caffeine per day – roughly four cups of coffee – safe for most people.

During hot weather the body loses more water through sweat, so experts recommend drinking water regularly and not using coffee as a substitute for water. Reasonable coffee consumption should be part of an overall habit of staying hydrated.

Nutrition specialists also stress that lasting energy comes from a balanced breakfast rich in protein, fiber and healthy fats rather than from caffeine alone. Foods like eggs, yogurt, oats, fruits and nuts provide sustained calories, while coffee or tea can accompany the meal but should not replace it. Adequate fluid intake throughout the day helps prevent fatigue and maintain focus.
