Health experts advise on heat management and excessive sweating

Experts provide guidance on managing body temperature and understanding perspiration. Food scientist Barry Swanson from Washington State University notes that while ice cream offers temporary relief, the energy required to digest high-fat foods can actually increase body heat.

To maintain hydration and cooling, experts recommend water-rich foods such as cucumbers, tomatoes, grapes, and watermelon. Nutritionist Farzanah Nasser suggests these foods help replenish minerals lost through sweat without taxing the digestive system.

Regarding perspiration, excessive sweating can sometimes indicate underlying health issues. While sweating is a natural cooling mechanism, conditions like primary focal hyperhidrosis—often appearing in childhood—can cause excessive sweating in specific areas like hands or underarms. Other potential causes for abnormal sweating include thyroid disorders and diabetes.
