Health experts advise on lifestyle habits to prevent stroke and aid recovery

Medical experts are advising on lifestyle adjustments to mitigate health risks associated with irregular habits, such as those often experienced during holiday periods. Common issues include irregular eating patterns, excessive alcohol consumption, sleep deprivation, and lack of physical activity.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Dung from Phu Tho Provincial General Hospital suggests that after holidays, individuals should return to a balanced diet prioritizing vegetables, fruits, and whole grains while limiting oily, sugary, and salty foods. To regain physical rhythm, she recommends gradual reintroduction of exercise, such as walking or yoga, rather than sudden high-intensity workouts. Restoring a regular sleep schedule is also vital to prevent decreased concentration and irritability.

Additionally, Dr. Nguyen Huu Khanh from Tam Anh General Hospital warns that excessive alcohol consumption can lead to increased blood pressure and heart rhythm disturbances, such as atrial fibrillation, which may cause blood clots and subsequent strokes. He notes that intoxication can often mask early stroke symptoms. Maintaining stable sleep patterns and avoiding the unauthorized discontinuation of prescribed medications for underlying conditions are also critical for preventing cardiovascular and neurological emergencies.
