Health experts advise on showering frequency and water safety
Health experts are providing guidance on hygiene and water safety to prevent skin irritation and bacterial infections.
Regarding daily hygiene, experts from netdoktor suggest that showering every day may not be necessary and can potentially harm the body. Frequent use of soap and shampoo can strip the skin of its natural acid mantle and essential oils, leading to dryness, itching, and redness. The scalp is particularly susceptible, as dryness can trigger excessive oil production.
In terms of water safety, the health insurance provider AOK warns travelers against using household water immediately after returning from a trip. Stagnant water in pipes can become a breeding ground for Legionella bacteria, especially in warm temperatures between 25 and 45 degrees Celsius. To reduce the risk of infection, such as Legionnaires' disease or Pontiac fever, users should flush all water lines with both hot and cold water for several minutes before use. Experts also advise against lowering household water temperatures to save energy, as higher temperatures help inhibit bacterial growth.
