Health experts advise optimal bathing frequency and beach soak time
Skin specialists say that daily showers are common but the ideal frequency depends on climate, activity level and skin type. Hot water and long showers can strip natural oils, leading to dryness, itching or irritation. They recommend limiting showers to five‑to‑ten minutes, using gentle soaps, focusing on areas such as armpits, feet, intimate zones and hands, and applying moisturizer afterward.
Nutritionist Jesús Vázquez advises that a brief five‑minute dip at the beach does not allow the body to reap the full benefits of seawater. He suggests staying in the water for about 30 minutes, when safe, to trigger thermoregulatory mechanisms that increase energy expenditure and engage muscle groups due to water resistance. He warns that prolonged exposure in cold water can cause chills or hypothermia, so swimmers should monitor temperature and exit if they feel unwell.
