Health experts caution against electrolyte and iodine deficiencies
Nutrition specialist Tuğçe Sütçüoğlu warns that in extreme heat and during prolonged physical activity, drinking water alone is insufficient. She explains that loss of sodium and potassium can lead to hyponatremia, causing headaches, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, muscle weakness and cramps. Sütçüoğlu recommends adding a small amount of salt to water, consuming salty foods such as cheese, and eating potassium‑rich items like avocado, banana, salmon and coconut water. She also advises seeking medical help if symptoms persist.
Prof. Dr. Canan Karatay stresses the importance of iodine for long, healthy lives, noting that modern processed foods often lack this essential mineral. She advocates natural, minimally processed diets and cautions against relying on cosmetic procedures for health. Karatay emphasizes that adequate iodine intake supports many cellular functions and should be part of a balanced lifestyle.
