Health experts clarify sleep disturbances and nighttime habits
Health experts are clarifying the distinctions between common sleep issues and clinical conditions, as well as the impact of nighttime habits on organ health.
Sleep educator Vishal Dasani noted that the term ‘insomnia’ is frequently misused to describe general sleep disturbances. He explained that experiencing difficulty sleeping due to stress, irregular schedules, or illness is often a normal occurrence and does not automatically meet the specific criteria required for an insomnia diagnosis. He emphasized that there is a significant difference between temporary sleep disruption and a chronic sleep disorder.
Separately, urologist dr. Andika Afriansyah warned that certain pre-sleep habits can affect kidney and urinary tract health. He specifically highlighted the importance of urinating before bed to prevent bacteria from accumulating in the bladder. According to dr. Afriansyah, leaving urine in the bladder for extended periods during sleep can allow bacteria to travel from the bladder to the kidneys via the ureters, potentially leading to kidney infections.
