Nova.rs journalists protest new leadership appointments

The editorial staff and journalists of Nova.rs are facing significant internal conflict following management decisions by Adria News Network (ANN) and Alpac Capital. The new ownership has appointed Marko Stjepanović as editor-in-chief and Ivana Mastilović Jasnić as his deputy, moves that have been met with strong opposition from the existing newsroom.

Journalists at Nova.rs conducted an anonymous survey where a majority expressed their refusal to cooperate with the new leadership, citing concerns over their professional backgrounds and perceived ties to pro-government media. The editorial staff has proposed Ranko Pivljanin as a compromise candidate for the editor-in-chief position.

Pedro Vargas Santos David, representing Alpac Capital, has defended the changes, attributing them to significant financial losses and stating that the media should remain neither pro-regime nor pro-opposition. Various media organizations, including NUNS, ANEM, and the editorial staff of Danas, have expressed solidarity with the Nova.rs journalists, raising alarms about the potential erosion of editorial independence and professional integrity during a sensitive pre-election period.
