Health experts discuss social and physical factors in aging

Medical experts highlight different physiological and social factors that influence the aging process. Psychiatrist Hideki Wada suggests that maintaining social connections, such as attending reunions, can have medical benefits for the elderly, though he notes that participation should be based on personal interest to avoid the stress of hearing repetitive topics like illnesses or family achievements.

On a physiological level, geriatric specialist Dr. Gabriel Lion emphasizes that muscle mass is a critical determinant of how quickly a person ages. According to Lion, the loss of healthy muscle and its replacement by fat can trigger metabolic issues, insulin resistance, and chronic inflammation. To combat rapid aging, he recommends a combination of strength training to provide physical load and adequate protein intake to supply the necessary amino acids for muscle synthesis.
