Health experts explain sleep inertia and abdominal fat retention
Medical experts have provided insights into common health concerns regarding sleep habits and fat loss.
Dr. Cecep Hermawan explains that repeatedly snoozing an alarm can lead to sleep inertia, causing dizziness, confusion, and physical heaviness. This occurs because the brain begins a new sleep cycle after the first alarm is silenced, only to be forcibly interrupted by the subsequent alarm before the cycle is complete.
Regarding weight management, Dr. Adam Prabata notes that lower abdominal fat can be particularly difficult to lose due to biological factors. He explains that the process of lipolysis, or fat release, is regulated by the hormone catecholamine. This hormone interacts with two types of receptors: beta-adrenergic receptors, which stimulate fat release, and alpha-2 adrenergic receptors, which inhibit lipolysis and cause the body to retain fat.
