Health experts highlight nutritional benefits of eggs

In observance of World Egg Day, health experts in Iran have highlighted the significant nutritional benefits of eggs for various stages of life. Experts from the Lorestan Agricultural Research Center and the Iran University of Medical Sciences emphasized that eggs serve as a highly accessible and complete protein source, containing all essential amino acids necessary for muscle repair and growth.

Key nutritional components discussed include choline, which is vital for brain function and fetal nervous system development, and antioxidants such as lutein and zeaxanthin, which help protect retinal health against digital screen exposure. The experts also noted that egg yolks provide essential vitamins A, D, E, and B12, along with minerals like selenium and phosphorus.

Addressing common dietary concerns, specialists clarified that moderate egg consumption—approximately one per day—is generally safe for healthy individuals and does not pose a heart risk due to beneficial fats. However, they recommended that individuals with specific medical conditions, such as diabetes or high cholesterol, consult physicians regarding their intake. For safety, experts advised consuming eggs cooked or boiled to prevent bacterial contamination.
