Health experts in Indonesia urge early detection of leukemia and heart disease
Health experts in Indonesia are emphasizing the importance of early detection for serious conditions such as Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and heart disease. Medical professionals from Mayapada Hospital note that symptoms like persistent fatigue, paleness, easy bruising, or frequent infections can indicate AML, a cancer where abnormal cells in the bone marrow disrupt the production of healthy blood cells. Diagnostic tools such as complete blood counts (CBC), blood smears, and bone marrow biopsies are essential for accurate identification.
In conjunction with World Heart Day, the Indonesian Heart Foundation (YJI) and the Indonesian Cardiovascular Specialists Association (PERKI) have launched the ‘Don’t Miss A Beat’ campaign. A primary focus of this initiative is the screening of Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD), particularly among children and adolescents. Screening programs are being implemented in Malang, Tulang Bawang, Bekasi, and North Minahasa to ensure early intervention and prevent long-term health consequences.
