Health experts link female hair loss to internal biological factors
Experts suggest that female hair loss is often a symptom of internal biological imbalances rather than just an aesthetic issue. Biologist Andreia Sousa emphasizes that hair health is a reflection of the body's internal environment, noting that inflammation, malnutrition, or hormonal dysregulation can affect the hair follicle.
Trichologist Anabel Kingsley identifies several potential causes for hair loss, including iron deficiency, vitamin B12 and D deficiencies, stress, and hormonal shifts associated with menstruation, perimenopause, and menopause. She notes that conditions such as hypothyroidism or diabetes can also be contributing factors.
To identify the root cause, specialists recommend medical consultations and blood tests to check ferritin and vitamin levels. Kingsley warns against self-prescribing supplements without professional guidance, as an excess of certain nutrients, such as selenium, can also trigger hair loss.
