Health experts offer summer wellness guidance for heart health and activity
Health experts are providing guidance on maintaining wellness during the summer months, focusing on nutrition and physical activity to prevent chronic diseases.
Cardiology and Internal Medicine Specialist Prof. Dr. Nevrez Koylan has outlined six critical recommendations for healthy barbecuing to protect heart health. To avoid risks such as hypertension and vascular diseases, Koylan advises choosing lean proteins like fish, skinless poultry, or low-fat red meat over high-sodium processed meats like sausages or salami. He warns against charring meat over high flames, which can create harmful compounds, suggesting instead medium heat and frequent turning. Additionally, increasing vegetable intake and following a Mediterranean-style diet can help manage calorie density.
Dietitian Ayşe Şura Korkmaz emphasizes that summer is an opportunity to adopt sustainable healthy lifestyle habits rather than short-term diets. She highlights that regular physical activity is essential for preventing obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular issues. Korkmaz recommends activities such as walking, swimming, or cycling, noting that during hot weather, individuals should exercise during cooler hours and prioritize hydration to prevent fluid loss.
