Health experts offer tips on circulation and sleep habits

Medical experts have shared insights regarding circulation and lifestyle habits to alleviate leg discomfort and improve sleep quality.

To combat leg heaviness and swelling caused by standing all day, Dr. Niki Ramskil suggests that elevating the legs—such as resting them against a wall or on a chair—can help return blood and fluids toward the heart. While this can provide temporary relief for mild swelling, experts note it is not a substitute for regular movement or medical treatment for chronic venous insufficiency.

Regarding sleep, Mar De Carlo of the International Parenting and Health Institute notes that wearing socks to bed may facilitate faster and longer sleep. This occurs through vasodilation, where warming the feet improves circulation and helps lower core body temperature, signaling the brain to sleep. Research indicates that individuals wearing socks may fall asleep faster and experience fewer nighttime awakenings. Additionally, keeping feet warm may help mitigate symptoms of Raynaud's disease by maintaining circulation in the extremities.
