Health Experts Outline Daily Water Intake Guidelines
Health authorities recommend that adults consume roughly two to three litres of water each day, accounting for fluids obtained from both drinks and food. The guideline of 30–40 ml of fluid per kilogram of body weight translates to about 2.1–2.8 L for a 70‑kg adult. An online calculator lets users input weight and age to estimate personal needs. The German Nutrition Society (DGE) also provides age‑specific reference tables, noting that infants and children require higher millilitres per kilogram than adults. Caloric intake can be used as an alternative metric, with about one millilitre of water advised per kilocalorie consumed.
