Health experts recommend nutritious diets for back-to-school season

As the new school year begins, health experts and the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) are recommending balanced diets to support the growth and development of students. To maintain energy throughout the school day, officials suggest providing varied and nutritious snacks, such as seasonal fruits, vegetables like cucumber or carrots, and simple preparations like chicken or tuna sandwiches, beans with cheese, or natural yogurt with seeds.

Nutritionists emphasize the importance of hydration, advising parents to prioritize plain water over sugary drinks, sodas, or industrialized juices. It is also recommended to limit the consumption of ultra-processed foods high in sugar, fat, and sodium.

Corn tortillas are highlighted as a practical and accessible option for school lunches. They provide essential carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Specifically, the B-complex vitamins found in corn tortillas assist with energy utilization and nervous system function, making them a beneficial staple for children and adolescents with active daily schedules.
