Health experts urge influenza vaccinations in Vietnam
Medical experts in Vietnam are advising high-risk groups to prioritize annual influenza vaccinations as the transition between summer and autumn seasons increases the risk of respiratory diseases.
Dr. Truong Huu Khanh, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Infectious Disease Association, warns that influenza should not be dismissed as a minor illness. While healthy adults may recover within a few days, the virus can lead to severe complications such as pneumonia and respiratory failure in vulnerable populations.
Key groups recommended for vaccination include pregnant women and young children. For pregnant women, vaccination provides dual protection, as antibodies can be passed to the infant. Children under five, especially those under two, face higher risks of complications like myocarditis, encephalitis, and pneumonia due to developing immune systems.
Additionally, medical facilities have noted a rise in COVID-19 cases recently, though current trends remain consistent with previous years and do not indicate unusual epidemiological developments.
