Health experts warn against common household products
Medical professionals and health experts are advising the public to limit the use of certain common household items to reduce exposure to potentially harmful chemicals.
Key products identified include strong cleaners and air fresheners, which can degrade indoor air quality by releasing chemical compounds. Experts suggest using fragrance-free alternatives and ensuring proper ventilation.
Plastic food storage containers are also highlighted, particularly regarding the risk of chemicals leaching into food when heated. Doctors recommend switching to glass or stainless steel containers for heating and storage.
Other concerns include poorly ventilated gas stoves, which may increase indoor levels of pollutants like benzene, and composite wood furniture that can emit formaldehyde. Additionally, stain- and water-resistant products may contain PFAS, often referred to as ‘forever chemicals,’ which are linked to various health risks.
