Health experts warn of declining age for colorectal cancer diagnoses
Medical experts are warning of a declining age threshold for colorectal cancer diagnoses, driven by sedentary lifestyles, high consumption of ultra-processed foods, stress, and genetics.
Key symptoms that should not be ignored include unexplained weight loss, persistent fatigue, changes in bowel habits (such as diarrhea or constipation), blood in the stool, abdominal pain, and palpable masses in the abdomen. Experts emphasize that while these symptoms are often dismissed as signs of aging or stress, they can indicate serious conditions including gastrointestinal diseases, thyroid issues, or malignancy.
Dr. Damir Aličić, a gastroenterologist, recommends colonoscopies for anyone experiencing indicative symptoms, regardless of age, and specifically for those over 50. Early detection through colonoscopy allows for the identification and removal of polyps before they develop into cancer. Individuals with a family history of the disease are at a significantly higher risk and should prioritize regular screening.
