Health experts warn of dehydration risks and drinking water safety

Health experts in Indonesia are highlighting the risks associated with dehydration and the safety of refillable drinking water. Clinical nutrition specialist dr. Putri Sakti warns that dehydration can cause blood to thicken, increasing the workload on the heart and potentially leading to decreased blood pressure, dizziness, and heat stroke.

Dehydration also poses significant risks to kidney function, making it difficult for the organs to filter toxins and increasing the likelihood of urinary tract infections and kidney stones. Early warning signs include dark urine, decreased urination frequency, headaches, fatigue, and difficulty focusing.

Regarding water consumption, Professor Etty Riani from IPB University notes that the safety of refillable water depends on the source quality, processing methods, and facility hygiene. While filtration technology is used, it may not remove all contaminants, such as industrial waste, pesticides, or heavy metals. Contamination can also occur after processing through unhygienic equipment like hoses, taps, or storage tanks.
