Health experts warn of kidney stone and blood clot risks during summer

Medical experts are issuing health warnings regarding common summer activities. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Solakhan from Medical Point Gaziantep Hospital warns that rising temperatures increase the risk of kidney stones due to dehydration. He advises individuals, particularly those working outdoors, to consume fluids regularly rather than waiting for the sensation of thirst, noting that dark urine can be a sign of insufficient hydration.

Separately, Prof. Dr. Servet Altay from Trakya University highlights the risks associated with long-distance travel during the summer tourist season. He notes that prolonged immobility, especially during trips lasting four hours or more, can lead to deep vein thrombosis. Such blood clots in the legs can travel to the heart and lungs, potentially causing fatal pulmonary embolisms. High-risk groups include the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with existing heart conditions.
