Health experts warn of lung cancer and kidney stone risk factors

Medical experts are highlighting various lifestyle and environmental factors that contribute to significant health risks, specifically regarding lung cancer and kidney stones.

Lung cancer remains a leading cause of cancer deaths globally. While tobacco use is responsible for approximately 85% of cases, the World Health Organization and the International Agency for Research on Cancer note that 5% to 20% of cases occur in non-smokers. Key contributors include exposure to secondhand smoke, for which no level is considered safe, as well as specific demographic vulnerabilities in certain Asian populations and women.

Regarding kidney and bladder stones, specialists warn that lifestyle habits such as inadequate water intake, high salt consumption, obesity, and physical inactivity are primary drivers. Dehydration leads to concentrated urine, facilitating the crystallization of minerals like calcium, oxalate, or uric acid. Other contributing factors include metabolic disorders, diabetes, and urinary tract issues such as prostate enlargement or nerve damage.
