Manisa and Bartın begin new disaster risk reduction planning
Authorities in Turkey have initiated the preparation process for the 2027-2031 Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Plan (IRAP) in Manisa and Bartın to minimize potential loss of life and property.
In Manisa, AFAD Provincial Director Osman Pıhtılı led meetings with public institutions and NGOs to discuss the new roadmap. Pıhtılı warned that rapid urbanization and improper land use—such as building in floodplains, coastal areas, or on unstable slopes—significantly increase disaster risks. The new plan aims to establish sustainable settlements and define responsibilities before disasters occur.
Similarly, in Bartın, Governor Dr. Nurtaç Arslan chaired a high-level briefing to evaluate existing disaster resilience efforts and outline the roadmap for the upcoming 2027-2031 period. The goal is to strengthen cooperation between institutions and improve response and recovery processes.
