Health experts warn of risks from alcohol and beer consumption

Medical experts are highlighting the significant health risks associated with frequent alcohol consumption, specifically regarding liver function and metabolic health.

Gastroenterologist Vladimir Neronov warns that early signs of alcohol-induced liver damage can include fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes). He notes that frequent consumption can lead to fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, and eventually cirrhosis. Neronov also points to increased alcohol tolerance as a potential sign of developing dependency.

Additionally, nutritionist Andrea Urizar has identified beer as a particularly harmful alcoholic beverage due to its combination of alcohol and carbohydrates from grains like wheat, barley, and malt. She states that because the body perceives alcohol as a toxin, it prioritizes its elimination over nutrient absorption and fat burning. This process can lead to increased cardiovascular risk, metabolic issues, inflammation, water retention, and difficulty with weight loss.
