Health experts warn of serious causes behind common shoulder and head pain
Medical experts are highlighting the importance of distinguishing between routine muscle strain and more serious underlying conditions. Shoulder pain, particularly when lifting the arm, may not simply be due to muscle tension but could indicate Subacromial Pain Syndrome (SAPS). This condition involves complex interactions between the rotator cuff tendons, subacromial bursa, and scapular movement, rather than just simple bone impingement.
Additionally, certain types of pain—specifically in the head, shoulders, or teeth—can serve as early warning signs for a stroke. While often dismissed as minor ailments, persistent or unusual pain accompanied by dizziness or weakness may indicate issues such as carotid artery stenosis. For instance, a case in China demonstrated how a resident's recurring headaches and shoulder heaviness were actually symptoms of narrowed cerebral arteries, which could have led to an acute cerebral infarction if left untreated.
