Health guidance on compression garments and footwear posture
Health experts provide guidance on managing circulatory issues and maintaining proper posture through appropriate footwear and compression garments.
Regarding venous health, the choice between compression stockings and compression socks depends on the area of coverage required. Compression socks typically cover the ankle and calf, making them suitable for mild circulatory issues or prevention during long trips. In contrast, compression stockings extend up to the thigh, providing more comprehensive venous compression often recommended for marked varicose veins, post-operative recovery, or thrombosis risks.
In terms of posture, podiatrists warn that transitioning from summer sandals to improper autumn footwear can cause back and foot pain. Experts note that flat shoes or very high heels can negatively impact the spine. Specifically, flip-flops can cause toe cramping as users grip the shoe to keep it on, which creates tension that travels up the legs to the back. For optimal support, specialists recommend shoes with a moderate heel of approximately 5 cm, a slight drop between the heel and forefoot, and stable soles that provide cushioning.
