Health habits and kidney function monitoring among middle-aged men

A survey of 2,864 men aged 40 to 60 in Japan reveals a correlation between health awareness and specific lifestyle habits. Men who actively monitor their blood pressure are significantly more likely to engage in regular exercise and maintain conscious hydration habits compared to those who do not. Specifically, 66.8% of those who track their blood pressure exercise regularly, compared to 46.6% of those who do not.

However, the data shows a discrepancy regarding sleep. Despite higher health consciousness, men who monitor their blood pressure reported slightly lower rates of getting seven or more hours of sleep compared to those who do not track their blood pressure. Short sleep duration is particularly prevalent among men in their 40s and 50s.

In addition to lifestyle habits, medical experts emphasize the importance of longitudinal monitoring of kidney function through annual health checkups. Key indicators to track include urine protein, urine albumin, and blood serum creatinine or eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate). Comparing results over several years can help identify subtle changes in kidney health that may not be apparent through physical symptoms alone.
