Health in School Program reaches 100,000 students in João Pessoa

The Health in School Program (PSE) is expanding its reach in João Pessoa, providing integral care to over 100,000 students across 276 schools and Early Childhood Education Centers. A partnership between the Municipal Health and Education Secretariats, the program integrates public schools with the Unified Health System (SUS) to promote disease prevention and healthy habits.

Between January 2025 and June 2026, 2,804 actions were conducted in the region. These activities include vaccination, supervised toothbrushing, fluoride application, and anthropometric evaluations. Educational efforts also cover nutrition, personal hygiene, sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and violence prevention.

Raysa Rolim, director of the Department of Child and Adolescent Health, noted that the school environment is a strategic space for continuous intervention during crucial developmental stages. The program also serves to identify clinical needs, referring students to Family Health teams for necessary follow-up care.
