Health indicators: Vitamin toxicity and nutritional deficiencies

Health indicators can manifest through physical symptoms such as nail changes or the effects of vitamin toxicity. Brittle, ridged, or spoon-shaped nails may indicate an iron deficiency, which affects oxygen transport and weakens the nail structure. However, nail changes can also result from aging, thyroid issues, or frequent contact with chemicals.

Regarding vitamin supplementation, excessive intake of fat-soluble vitamins like Vitamin D can lead to hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcemia. Symptoms of Vitamin D overdose include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, increased thirst, frequent urination, and in severe cases, kidney damage or heart rhythm disturbances. This risk is particularly high with long-term use of high-dose supplements or defective products.
