Health initiatives focus on professional training in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire

In Senegal, the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene held a steering committee meeting for the Africa Health Collaborative (AHC) project. Implemented in partnership with AMREF and the Mastercard Foundation, the initiative aims to strengthen health human resources by training, employing, and supporting entrepreneurship among youth and women. The project targets the training of 7,000 young health professionals by 2027.

Key recommendations from the meeting include improving the monitoring of private training institutions, enhancing professional development, and establishing frameworks with financing bodies like DER/FJ and FONGIP to assist community health actors. Participants also called for a multi-year strategic roadmap, modernized training methods, and the expansion of the program to other regions of Senegal.

In Côte d’Ivoire, the AUBE ITY project, led by Endeavour Mining in collaboration with Health Partners International Canada, the NGO OHASA, and the Zouan-Hounien health district, has completed training for 17 health professionals. The training focused on emergency obstetric and neonatal care to improve outcomes for mothers and children in the Zouan-Hounien and Bloléquin departments. The graduates, including midwives and nurses, received diplomas following rigorous evaluation in areas such as pregnancy hemorrhage management and newborn resuscitation.
