Global Breast Cancer Awareness Month drives prevention and screening initiatives

In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, various regions are implementing programs to improve early detection and patient support. In Paraguay, medical specialists from the Instituto de Previsión Social (IPS) noted that while incidence remains high, mortality rates have decreased due to improved early diagnosis.

In Argentina, several provinces have launched specific health campaigns. Río Negro is offering free mammograms for women aged 50 to 69 without requiring a medical order, including extended evening hours. Entre Ríos has strengthened its provincial network through the Central de Informes de Mamografías (Cimaer), utilizing telemammography to centralize expert readings and reduce diagnostic delays. In General Alvear, community efforts are underway to replace aging diagnostic equipment at the Hospital Enfermeros Argentinos.

In Bolivia, oncology patients in Tarija are mobilizing to demand the promulgation of the ‘Solidarity Flights Law,’ which would provide subsidized air travel for patients requiring specialized medical care outside their residence. Meanwhile, in Greece, the Municipality of Central Corfu and the Ionian Islands is hosting scientific symposiums and offering free clinical examinations and mammography prescriptions.

Other regional efforts include symbolic community actions in Spain, such as coloring water sources pink in La Solana, and the distribution of oncological prostheses and wigs in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. In Peru, the mining company Antamina has launched an internal prevention campaign for its workforce.
