Health initiatives launched in Chile to address community leadership and specialist shortages

In Punta Arenas, the sixth edition of the Health Leaders School has concluded. Organized by the Communal Union of Primary Health Care Development Councils, with support from the Magallanes Health Service and the Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Health, the program provides social leaders with tools to strengthen community participation and act as a link between citizens and health teams.

In the Tarapacá region, Universidad Arturo Prat and the Iquique Medical College have partnered for the ‘MásMed Tarapacá’ project. This initiative will conduct a study to map the deficit of medical specialists across various communes. The study aims to identify specific areas of high demand and investigate the barriers preventing the attraction and retention of medical talent in both urban centers and rural areas to inform future budgetary and healthcare decisions.
