Health initiatives promote bone marrow and blood donation in Greece

Health initiatives focused on blood and bone marrow donation are taking place in the Thessaly and Western Macedonia regions of Greece.

In Kalabaka, the Kalabaka Health Center successfully completed a voluntary action for the awareness and registration of new bone marrow donors. Organized as part of the ‘5th Panhellenic Voluntary Bone Marrow Action’ to mark World Bone Marrow Donor Day, the event saw significant participation from local citizens, clubs, and businesses. The initiative was supported by the Nurses' Union of Greece and the ‘Vision of Hope’ association.

In Kozani, the Region of Western Macedonia is organizing a voluntary blood donation event at the Kozani Regional Administration building on September 28. Held in collaboration with the blood donation unit of Mamatsios General Hospital of Kozani and the ‘Bridge of Life’ Blood Donor Volunteers Association, the event also offers the opportunity for individuals to register as bone marrow donors via saliva samples. Local authorities have noted that employees participating in the blood donation are entitled to two days of special leave.
