Health experts advise against detox diets after summer holidays

Health experts are advising against extreme detox diets and fasting following the summer holiday period. Gastroenterologists from Aigo emphasize that the digestive system does not need 'cleansing' but rather a gradual return to regular habits, including consistent meal timings, adequate sleep, and physical activity.

Common post-vacation symptoms such as bloating, constipation, and fatigue are often linked to increased sodium intake, irregular eating patterns, and dehydration rather than actual fat accumulation. Experts suggest managing these issues by prioritizing hydration, consuming fiber-rich foods, and choosing complex carbohydrates and lean proteins to stabilize energy levels.

Persistent daytime exhaustion can stem from various factors, including nutritional deficiencies (such as iron, B12, or Vitamin D), sleep quality, stress, or underlying medical conditions like hypothyroidism or diabetes. To combat fatigue and support liver and intestinal health, specialists recommend a Mediterranean-style diet rich in vegetables, legumes, whole grains, and fish.
