Health insights on plantar fasciitis and nerve neuropathy
Medical experts provide insights into common physical ailments, including plantar fasciitis and neuropathy.
Plantar fasciitis is a frequent cause of foot pain, often characterized by sharp heel pain during initial steps in the morning or after periods of rest. It is caused by micro-lesions or degenerative changes in the plantar fascia due to repeated overload. Risk factors include age (40–60), high-impact exercise, obesity, pregnancy, flat feet, and improper footwear.
Regarding numbness and tingling, Dr. Megan Everson of the Mayo Clinic explains that while often temporary due to nerve pressure from positioning, these sensations can indicate underlying conditions like neuropathy. Causes include nerve compression from spinal stenosis or carpal tunnel syndrome, diabetes, vitamin deficiencies, kidney disease, and excessive alcohol consumption. Additionally, stress and anxiety can trigger tingling sensations through rapid breathing or panic attacks.
