Health insights on post-meal fatigue and liver metabolic health

Post-meal fatigue and metabolic liver health are linked to dietary habits and energy management. Dr. Mateusz Lewandowski explains that drowsiness after eating can be a physiological response as the parasympathetic nervous system activates to facilitate digestion, redirecting blood flow toward the intestines.

To mitigate this fatigue, experts suggest avoiding meals high in fats and simple carbohydrates, which can cause rapid insulin spikes and subsequent glucose drops. Eating smaller, more frequent, and balanced meals is recommended.

Regarding metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), research indicates that only about 15 percent of liver fat comes directly from dietary intake. The majority originates from fatty acids released from adipose tissue or from the liver producing its own fat from excess sugars. Factors such as overweight and insulin resistance are closely linked to the condition.
