South Korea expands AI investment and regulatory support

South Korea is significantly expanding its investment and regulatory frameworks to support Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration across various sectors. The Ministry of Science and ICT announced a massive 84.9% increase in its AI budget for next year, reaching approximately 9.4 trillion won. This funding aims to secure high-end computing resources, such as NVIDIA GPUs, develop sovereign AI models, and expand AI services to the general public.

In the industrial sector, the Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL) is hosting seminars to help manufacturers navigate global AI regulations and standardize manufacturing data to enhance global competitiveness. Simultaneously, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups is launching a contest to identify small businesses that have successfully achieved productivity gains through AI adoption.

In healthcare, the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service held an international symposium to discuss the integration of AI into medical systems, focusing on safety, policy, and global regulatory standards. These collective efforts reflect a nationwide push to transition from basic AI infrastructure development to widespread industrial and social application.
