Health Minister Azir Aliu Says He May Remain in Government Amid Reshuffle
North Macedonia’s Health Minister Azir Aliu said he is aware that the announced government reconstruction could affect his position, but he did not apply for the post and there was no contest for the role. He emphasized that his political engagement is driven by a desire to contribute to society, not by the title of minister. Aliu stated that each day he works “as if it could be his last day” and that the decision on whether he stays in the cabinet will be made by the institutions, not by him personally.
He refused to give a definitive answer about remaining in the government, insisting the matter is “institutional, not personal.” Aliu pledged to continue serving citizens whether as minister, expert or professor. At a press conference he presented the benefits of the EU4Health programme, announced a campaign to familiarize institutions and companies with it, and recalled his earlier work on digital transformation that brought Macedonia into the EU’s digitalisation programme.
