Health Minister Georgiadis faced union demands on staffing at Bodousakeio Hospital

During a visit to Bodousakeio Hospital, the president of the Workers' Union, Dimitris Papadopoulos, presented a memorandum to Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis outlining serious staffing deficiencies. He demanded answers on the operation of the Pathology Clinic, the Emergency Department (METh), the Oncology unit and the Radiology department, noting that the Emergency Department has been closed since November 2023 and that critical units rely on a limited number of permanent staff, rotating doctors and temporary contracts.

Papadopoulos also raised concerns about inadequate on‑call coverage in radiology and called for wage upgrades, improved working conditions and more secure employment contracts for hospital personnel.

The minister’s visit was attended by the Deputy Minister of Finance Nikos Papathanasis, the General Secretary of Health Services Lilian Vildiridi, parliamentarians and local officials.
