Health ministries deploy resources in Santa Cruz, Argentina and Galapagos, Ecuador
In Argentina, the Ministry of Health and Environment conducted a work agenda in Puerto Santa Cruz to strengthen the local sanitary system. Officials visited the Dr. Eduardo Canosa Sectional Hospital to analyze care circuits, optimize operational resources, and promote the consolidation of telemedicine services. The mission also included a visit to the Dr. Raúl Paolucci CIC to reorganize Primary Health Care and restructure work teams.
In Ecuador, the Ministry of Public Health has deployed a medical operation in Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos, to assist those affected by severe flooding. Medical teams have provided over 330 consultations through temporary points and the Hospital Básico República del Ecuador. Five professional brigades are working 12-hour shifts to ensure 24-hour coverage, including intensive vaccination campaigns against influenza, diphtheria, and tetanus.
The flooding caused significant damage to local health infrastructure, with the Santa Cruz Health Center reporting a preliminary 98 percent affectation of its facilities. To mitigate this, more than 20,000 units of medicines and medical supplies were delivered through inter-institutional coordination involving the Guayas Provincial Health Directorate, the Junta de Beneficencia, and the Charles Darwin Foundation.
