Health ministries in Chad and Burkina Faso launch disease prevention campaigns
Health officials in Chad and Burkina Faso are intensifying efforts to combat endemic diseases through targeted mobilization and prevention campaigns.
In Chad, the Minister of Public Health and Prevention, Dr. Abdelmadjid Abderahim, is conducting a mission across southern provinces, including Bongor and Moundou. The initiative aims to strengthen community engagement to interrupt the transmission of Guinea worm (dracunculiasis). In the Mayo-Kebbi Est province, health officials reported 39 animal infections in 2026, representing a 53.1% decrease compared to the previous year.
In Burkina Faso, the Ministry of Health is overseeing the fourth and final phase of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (CPS+) campaign. Led by Secretary General Dr. Joël Arthur Kiendrébéogo, the campaign targets approximately 5.5 million children nationwide, primarily those aged 3 to 59 months. The CPS+ approach integrates medication with malnutrition detection, larval habitat destruction, and immediate care for febrile children.
