Health monitoring and influenza prevention in Bavaria
Health organizations in Bavaria are emphasizing the importance of immune system support and influenza vaccinations as the colder seasons approach. The Johanniter organization in Eastern Bavaria recommends timely vaccination to prevent severe complications from influenza, particularly for high-risk groups such as individuals over 60, pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses, and medical professionals.
To track viral activity, the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) utilizes wastewater monitoring. This method allows for the early detection of infection waves, including both coronavirus and influenza, by measuring viral loads independently of individual testing rates. The LGL categorizes virus activity levels into five stages, ranging from ‘very low’ to ‘very high,’ based on historical data from the past three years.
