Health New Zealand faces pressure to protect 1,200 home support jobs

The Public Service Association (PSA) is demanding that Health New Zealand guarantee job security for more than 1,200 home support workers following the termination of several service contracts in Auckland.

Health New Zealand decided to cut contracts previously held by not-for-profit providers Visionwest, Lifewise, and Presbyterian Support Northern. These organizations provide home and community support services across Auckland, Counties Manukau, and Waitematā, currently assisting approximately 4,500 older and disabled individuals.

PSA National Secretary Fleur Fitzsimons stated that the union is calling for all frontline carers, nurses, and coordinators to be transferred to new providers under the same pay, terms, and conditions. The union warned it would pursue legal action to ensure compliance with the Employment Relations Act to protect worker interests and the continuity of care for vulnerable citizens.
