Health officials address Ebola and Mpox risks in Togo and DRC

In Togo, health officials in the Central region held a training session in Sokodé for journalists and communicators. The initiative, supported by the ‘Quality Essential Health Services for Universal Health Coverage’ project, aims to improve risk communication regarding Mpox, dengue, and Ebola. The training focuses on preventing misinformation, managing rumors, and ensuring responsible, non-stigmatizing communication to encourage public adherence to prevention measures.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Kayna health zone in the Lubero territory has reported its first case of Ebola. The patient, a 21-year-old man, was identified at a health checkpoint and transferred to a quarantine site. This area is currently under the occupation of the AFC/M23 rebel group.

The Ebola outbreak in Lubero is intensifying, with six of the territory's seven health zones now affected. Recent data indicates a high fatality rate in certain areas; for instance, the Lubero health zone has recorded four confirmed cases and four deaths since August 2. The Musienene health zone remains the most heavily impacted, reporting 86 confirmed cases and 51 deaths.
