Health risks associated with prolonged computer and device use

Prolonged use of computers and electronic devices is linked to various physical health issues, including musculoskeletal disorders and digital eye strain. In Mexico, the IMSS has recorded significant numbers of work-related injuries, including 2,940 cases of dorsopathy (back and spine disorders), 1,568 shoulder injuries, and 1,518 cases of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Medical experts note that excessive screen time can lead to digital eye strain, characterized by eye fatigue, blurred vision, headaches, and dryness due to reduced blinking frequency. While these symptoms can cause discomfort in the eyes, neck, and shoulders, ophthalmologists suggest that digital eye strain in adults often improves with rest, corrective lenses, and healthy usage habits. Prevention strategies include adjusting workstations, taking regular breaks, and maintaining proper posture to avoid long-term injury.
