Health risks increase during rainy season in Vietnam
Health officials are warning of an increased risk of parasite and helminth infections due to the humid conditions of the rainy season. In Dong Nai, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has recorded numerous cases, including 106 intestinal worm infections and 165 cases of various parasites. A significant portion of these cases, 158 instances, involve Toxocara (dog and cat roundworms).
Medical experts note that symptoms such as prolonged skin itching, hives, and fatigue can often be mistaken for common allergies, leading to delayed or incorrect treatments. Risk factors include contact with pets that have not been dewormed, walking barefoot in damp soil, consuming unwashed raw vegetables, and exposure to contaminated water sources. Experts advise regular deworming for pets and improved hygiene to mitigate these risks.
